The species placed in Apetinus are distinguished from Eupetinus species by reduction of the flight wings, shortened elytra, and by increased explanation of pronotal and elytral margins. One species is arboreal and differs from a typical Eupetinus only in having reduced flight wings.  The remaining species all are associated with forest litter and exhibit all of the characters mentioned above.
